Snorkel Set

So many of the adventures available in the Philippines involve water - especially snorkeling along some of the most gorgeous coastline and reefs in the world. You may be able to rent gear locally, but it would be better to pack your own snorkel set. When you shop for your own, you will be able to find the best fit and quality for your budget. A good set will include a durable and well-fitting mask, snorkel, and fins. With your own gear, you will be able to snorkel during your downtime with ease, without having to locate a rental shop. It’s a win-win scenario to make the most of your vacation.

Hiking Sandals

Make sure your feet are ready for anything by land or sea with a quality pair of hiking sandals. While you do sacrifice some ankle stability compared to traditional hiking boots, you also gain several advantages. Hiking sandals are lightweight, have excellent airflow, and are perfect for treks that may take you through the water. Hiking sandals are one area to splurge a little, ensuring you get the best quality; you will want these shoes to hold up to all kinds of adventuring in the Philippines. Don’t leave them off your packing list!

Sun Protection

The Philippines is warm and tropical, and while there is a wet season, UV rays still penetrate the clouds. Packing sun protection is vitally important. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays with an SPF of at least 30. It’s also a good idea to pack a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses for maximum protection, and you’ll enjoy the relief from the heat and light. Adequate sun protection can mean the difference between a wonderful vacation experience and a horrible sunburn.

Insect Repellent

Although malaria is not common in most parts of the Philippines, because it is a tropical environment, mosquitos and dengue are still a concern. Malaria pills are optional but packing insect repellent is a must. Repellents with DEET are still the gold-standard for preventing mosquitos and other insects from treating you like a yummy snack. Pack enough to have it available each day, as you will need to reapply for maximum protection.

Quick-dry Clothing

Once again, with plenty of tours and activities involving beaches, rainforests, rivers, and caves, it’s a good idea to pack clothing items specifically created to be quick-drying. Many retailers offer durable hiking and adventure clothing made to wick-away sweat and moisture and dry out as fast as possible. The humidity in the Philippines alone will make this one of your best assets. Several brands of quick-dry clothing also provide a measure of sun protection, and even insect repellent, woven into the cloth for an added benefit.

These five items will make your adventure on any of Uncharted Philippines' tours more convenient, comfortable, and pleasurable. Discover the magic of the Philippines for yourself.
